Review: My Beautiful Friend

My Beautiful Friend
My Beautiful Friend by Venero Armanno
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A complex and demanding narrative beautifully evocative of Switzerland with great character descriptions. Never really quite got the full plot but if you like European settings and ghostly apparitions this one is for you. It is not a fast read though and you will find yourself checking back to keep your direction. Venero Armanno is a talented writer and teacher. Looking forward to exploring his other works.

Review: Woman of God

Woman of God
Woman of God by James Patterson
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Parts of this were quite moving. I think as an ex-Protestant it was difficult to understand the Catholic passion for the rules within their religious beliefs. The main character has a tough life and many incidents of grief to handle, maybe too many. At the end of the day it felt more like a religious brochure than a novel, but I have no doubt some will love it with a passion. Interesting read but not one I will seek out a sequel for.
